By now, you've probably seen or heard of Dalgona Coffee, aka whipped coffee, trending all over Tik Tok and Instagram, and it's definitely caught your eye. If you're like me, and you've been dying to try it, but then you realized how much sugar goes into this tempting looking coffee. I have no interest in consuming that much sugar in a drink that will be consumed in minutes. Especially since I usually drink my coffee after I work out, and there's no better way to ruin the post-workout adrenaline by pumping your body full of sugar!

After learning how this coffee is made, I assumed that the sugar must be a key ingredient to getting that smooth foam on top of this reverse-cappuccino-looking ice coffee, and I wondered if substituting the sugar would ruin the consistency and the appeal that the Dalgona Coffee has. Don't fret, I did the research on this so you don't have to, and I bring to you the perfect keto-friendly Dalgona Coffee, courtesy of The Diet Chef.blog.

Conventional Dalgona Coffee has equal parts of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. You're supposed to whisk the mixture until it's fluffy and dense and then scoop your mixture on top of the milk of your choice, over ice.

After searching through many keto recipes, Joe from the Diet Chefsrecipe looked like the best choice. Word on the street is that the sugar substitute that he uses taste very similar to real sugar without it being super sweet and artificial tasting, I ordered it, and as someone with a real sweet tooth and hatred toward things that taste diet, I could tell you that this definitely did not disappoint!

keto dalgona coffee so yummy and delicious

HeresJoe Duffs recipe for the perfect Keto Dalgona coffee:

  • 2 Tbsps (30g) hot water
  • 2 Tbsps (14g) InstantCoffee
  • 5 Tbsps (45g)Confectioners Swerve  (since this is essentially powdered sugar, you need to use more of it to maintain the flavor that you're aiming for)
  1. Whip the ingredients all together using a whisk or hand mixer until you reach a mousse-like consistency. This may take a few minutes but bear with me because the end results are worth it!
  2. Add some ice to a glass and fill it ¾ of the way with the milk of your choice
  3. Enjoy!!

Joe recommends mixing it all together (after you get the perfect picture of course) but I like to sip it without mixing it and without a straw so it all combines in my mouth and I get a taste of the delicious mousse-like coffee with every sip!

*Recipe yields two servings*
